Modern Defense for Modern Warfare

The sky got a lot harder to watch.

Modern FPV drones have quickly become game-changers on the battlefield. They are cheap, fast to build, and increasingly immune to existing defenses. That's why Sokol Technologies is building AEGIS, an affordable, networked, and layered defense system to detect what radar and radio can no longer see.

The Problem

Existing anti-drone defense systems fail.

Modern attack drone technology has surpassed existing defenses. 70-80% of casualties on the Ukrainian frontlines are caused by FPV drones. Fiber-optic guided drones that carry no electronic signature can slip past radar and radio frequency detection. A new system leveraging guaranteed detection methods is necessary.

01

Fiber-optic drones don't transmit

A growing class of FPV drones now flies on a spool of hair-thin optical fiber instead of a radio link. There is no signal to jam, no frequency to detect, and no GPS to spoof. The entire premise of RF-based counter-drone defense no longer applies.

02

Cost asymmetry favors the attacker

FPV drones can be assembled from commodity parts for a few hundred dollars. Every layer of expensive sensing and jamming infrastructure built to stop them has to work every time; the drone only has to get through once.

03

Detection is still the bottleneck

Interceptors, nets, and directed-energy systems have all matured faster than the sensing layer that's supposed to cue them. Without early, reliable detection of a threat that isn't emitting anything, none of those downstream systems get the chance to act.

04

The gap is widening, not closing

As guided munitions and loitering drones proliferate across conflict zones and move toward domestic critical-infrastructure threats, the window between "detected" and "impact" keeps shrinking.

Our Approach

There are some things that cannot be concealed.

Every drone in the air has to move air to fly. Acoustic signatures and imaging technology allow us to leverage compute to enable rapid detection of even the sneakiest drones.
